Snake River Farms Kurobuta Half Bone-In Ham

Our Kurobuta (100% Berkshire breed) hams consistently receive top scores in artisan ham comparisons and are frequently featured by celebrity chefs and culinary experts during the holidays. Produced using traditional curing methods and carefully smoked over real hardwood, our gourmet hams are tender, rich in flavor, and have the perfect essence of smoke. As the name implies, these are our whole bone-in hams cut in half for meals when less ham is required. There are two sizes of half bone-in hams: small (about  6lbs.) and large (about 8 lbs).

Kurobuta is the Japanese term for “black hog” and refers to animals of the Berkshire variety, a heritage breed. Kurobuta pork is highly marbled with a beautiful dark color, firm texture, and naturally delicious flavor. The Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries mandates that pork designated as “Kurobuta” must consist of 100% Berkshire animals. Snake River Farms gourmet hams strictly adhere to this requirement. Our animals are treated humanely and are raised on small family farms without hormones using a natural slow feed process.

    As I am new to Snake River Farms this was the BEST ham we have ever had. Had a family party of 15 who all stated this was the best ham they have ever eaten. Followed one the the serving instructions too everyones delight. Do to the price I would only purchase for a special occasion. But I am sure there will be request for an Easter Ham dinner!

  • Best Ham of my entire life...!! We all loved it..!!

    Wow...!! I’m a ham lover, and this was the best ever! Even our 38 year old son, who claims to not like ham, asked to take some leftovers...!!
    I cooked exactly, as stated, with a meat thermometer to 140 degrees. Glazed after 50 minutes with brown sugar, balsamic and dijon.....delicious! My only mistake......?? Should of gotten a whole ham, instead of a half...!! We also served a prime tenderloin, but everybody, preferred this ham...!! Next year, a whole ham will be ordered...!! So looking forward to using what’s left for our New Years good luck...ham and beans..!!

  • Way too salty

    Was surprised given all the positive reviews at what we ended up with. Fed this to my family of 15 or so and everyone agreed this was dry and overly salted. All I did was heat the ham in the oven, so I didn’t do anything to alter the taste. I heated it in the 325F oven until it reached 140F as the instructions suggested. Thankfully we got a ham from another company and that one was great! Who knows though? Maybe I got a dud?

    I ordered the small bone in half ham. Delivery was on time and very well packaged.
    Now for the good stuff. I have NEVER had such a delicious ham. Pricey, oh yeah. But if you're like me and only bake a ham every couple years, it is well worth every penny and then some. Most hams are quite salty...one reason I rarely serve them. This was not. In addition, it was so juicy and had the best flavor with just the right amount of smokiness. Follow the directions that come with it and you won't be sorry. I did make up a glaze which I drizzled over during last 1/2 hour of heating but this ham was so good, it wasn't needed. Now I'm anxious to make soup with the bone. Would I spend the $$ again next time I serve a ham? You betcha. And I bet I dont wait another two years to do so.
