Snake River Farms Kurobuta Ham Heating Instructions

As the recipient of Snake River Farms American Kurobuta pork, you are receiving a culinary treasure with distinguished ancestry.

Kurobuta, Japanese black hog, is 100% pure all-natural Berkshire pork. Its origins date back over 300 years when legend has it that the Berkshire hog was first discovered by Oliver Cornwell’s army in winter quarters at Reading, the county seat of the shire of Berks in England. Fancied for its exceptional flavor and consistency, the British refined the breed in the 1800’s and later gifted the Berkshire hogs as diplomatic gifts in Asia and America. A strong demand was created in Japan and around the world for Kurobuta pork - the “kobe beef” of pork.

Snake River Farms Kurobuta pork is the consummate centerpiece to any meal; a savory delight to be enjoyed with friends and family all year long.

HEATING INSTRUCTIONS

Remove ham from the refrigerator at least 45 minutes prior to cooking and bring to room temperature.

Preheat oven to 275 degrees. Remove the wrappings; place the ham in a roasting pan and cover loosely with aluminum foil. Heat for approximately 12-15 minutes per pound*. Remove from the oven when the center of the ham reaches 135 degrees. To eliminate the guesswork, use an instant read thermometer. Allow ham to rest tented with aluminum foil for 15-30 minutes.

Optional: remove the aluminum foil tent for the last half hour of cooking and baste with your favorite glaze.

* Please note that cooking times vary with the size and temperature of the ham. Approximate cooking times are 5 hours for a whole ham and 2 1/2 to 3 hours for half of a ham.
